I am Beth. I have been leading Customer Experience, service, and operations teams for over twenty years. The thread through all of it has been the same: I go where the work is messy, and I make it work.
I am a systems thinker and a builder. I see how the pieces connect, the process, the people, the technology, the customer, and I care most about getting those pieces to function together in a way that serves someone. That is the work I keep coming back to, regardless of the industry or the title.
But if I am being honest, the part of this career I value most is not the operations I have fixed or the strategies I have built. It is the people. I have always believed that my job as a leader is to create the conditions for other people to do their best work, and then get out of the way. Some of the people who started with me early in their careers are now running their own businesses, leading teams, sitting in the C-suite. That is not my achievement. But it might be my favorite outcome.
My career has not been a meteoric rise to the top. It has been a well-lived, well-learned journey doing work I believe in and getting better at it along the way. I am a practitioner. I learn by doing, I lead by building, and I measure success by what the people around me become.
I started The Unpolished Leader because the version of leadership I was living did not match the version I kept reading about. The real work is not polished. It is iterative, it is human, and it happens in the space between what a company says it values and what it actually does. I think there are a lot of us doing this work quietly, without fanfare, and we deserve a space that reflects that.
This is that space.
